Why the questions on the application form

Some may wonder why I am curious about various things that I ask on the application form.

Okay. Fair question.

Alright I cheated a little. I modified an application for a NAEYC conference scholarship that I completed recently. (I was in it more for the essay writing element of why nannies should be considered... I should just post it one of these days.)

Anyway, the information on this contest is going out to a variety of places on the Internet and asking some of the questions can help me get a better feel on making sure those applying are legit nannies and not some spammers.

I love various discussion boards out there for nannies. And it would be cool if there were enough nannies applying to get a cross section of representatives from the different discussion boards. WHY --- because if they are excited about the classes they are learning I'm hoping they will share their enthusiasm with other nannies they are on boards with. It is my hope that other nannies will reflect more on affordable continuing education options to help them with their careers. Hence the reason I asked if nannies were on discussion boards, I don't want to know user names or anything like that all.

What I honestly am looking for when I'm asking for employer names is a subtle way of find out if you are in a two parent or single parent home, genders, etc. --- I have worked for single parents, divorced parents, widowers, gay parents, etc. I know it's not easy too and hope getting a subscription prize like this will be a symbol of support from someone who has been there.

When I ask the ages of the charges, it helps determine what classes I can suggest a potential recipient start with to help them in their current job. Or if they are working with charges past the ECE range, I can let them know this too. It would be up to them then if they still would like to be a contender.

I think it is cool to know what different academic backgrounds people have as well. It is an education prize.

The recommendation form is from the NAEYC application too. A great thing about this, the validation you can get from some one in the profession, employer, etc. The contest I needed mine for with NAEYC ended some time ago. I still have that letter for part of my portfolio too.

AND something that is soooo close to my heart. Whether a nanny is employed or not. I would have loved to have an option to compete for something like this when I was between jobs these past few years.

I am I really "judging" --- oh gosh no. Who am I to judge. I'm hoping there are 20 respondents to begin with. And oh, it will be hard if there are more. ( I honestly have a back up option for runner ups that I'm working on with another online ECE program.)

I hope that clears that up.
